There will also be a limited number of full fee-paying places available for pupils who pass the ASIS Entrance Exams.
Applications are open to Children who will be aged 11, 13 or 16 on or before September 1st of the academic year in which they wish to commence schooling in Britain.
Consistent with UK practice, ASIS schools commence their academic year in September, and conclude in the following July. School holidays take place in October (1 or 2 weeks), Christmas (3 weeks), February (1 week), Easter (3 weeks), late May (1 week) and July (6/8 weeks).
Registration for entry examinations cannot be completed without parental or guardian consents. (Registration form will require names and contact details of two Parents or Guardians).
A Competition for Places
Phase 1 Entrance Exams
ASIS, in conjunction with Pearson VUE, will be conducting an initial 2-hour on-line entrance examination in English Comprehension & Grammar, Mathematics, and General Knowledge for each age group – 11, 13 and 16 – in secure Test Centres across India.
Exam Centres: Chandigarh, New Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Indore, Nagpur, Kolkata, Vizag, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, Banglore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Kochi
Phase 2 Exams
Following Phase 1 of the examinations, candidates with proficiency in English, Maths and General Knowledge will be selected for Phase 2, which takes place in the first two weeks of April. This will be conducted in the presence of the ASIS Principal and other ASIS staff over a full day. Candidates selected to enter Phase 2 will have the choice of meeting the ASIS team in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Chennai or Bangalore. Phase 2 testing will involve a hand-written English test, the development of a personal statement as to why the candidate wants to come to school in Britain and a Non-Verbal Reasoning Test. Parents and guardians will be invited to attend the Phase 2 Test Day to meet the ASIS team and to hear more about ASIS schools and the educational opportunities on offer.
Some schools will offer places to candidates following the Phase 2 examinations.
Phase 3 Interviews for Scholarships and Financial Assistance
Scholarship candidates and others applying for financial assistance will be invited to meet the Principals and Admissions Tutors of ASIS schools at a Phase 3 interview to take place in the last week of April. This will be held in New Delhi, to which all selected candidates will be expected to travel.
Principals and Admissions Tutors from ASIS Federation Schools will hold short interviews with each candidate, and will expect to meet with parents and guardians at that time. This will be of value even to those candidates unsuccessful in winning either scholarships or other financial assistance, since they may be offered a full fee-playing place at a Federation School on the strength of their interview.
Entrance Examination Timings
First phase entrance examinations will be held each year in two blocks:
- Spring Block: February and March
- Autumn Block: October and November
THESE PERIODS ARE KNOWN AS THE ‘EXAMINATION WINDOWS’
After registration, candidates will be directed to a Pearson Vue website to book a seat at a test centre near you.
For admissions in September 2014 there will be one Examination Window only (February-March 2014).
For admissions in September 2015 both the Autumn Block and theSpring Block Examination Windows will be open.
Candidates will only be permitted to take the tests once per Examination Window.
THERE WILL BE A ONE-OFF REGISTRATION FEE OF £250 (approximately 25,000 Rupees) PAYABLE BY CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD. This registration fee will secure a place in the Entrance Examinations, and will ensure that the candidate is eligible for a scholarship or financial assistance. This registration fee is NOT a deposit for entry to a specific school.
Candidates are welcome to pre-register for Entrance Tests in advance of the Examination Window. Those seeking to pre-register will have the option to pay later when the Examination Window opens, but taking such an option will NOT GUARANTEE a seat at a Test Centre. The registration fee MUST be paid before an entrance examination can be taken.
ALL EXAMINATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED WHILST THE EXAMINATION WINDOW REMAINS OPEN.
